In Seward we meet at the Alaska Sea Life
Center and launch our sea kayaks for a 5
mile paddle along the coast of Resurrection
Bay where mountains rise out of the bay to
over 5,000 feet. Eagles, otter, sea
lions, and salmon, are a few of the wildlife
species that inhabit this region.
Our paddle ends at Caines Head, a former WW
II gun site to protect the harbor. You will
hike through the rain forest and climb 600
feet up to the bunkers constructed in 1944
to protect Seward from attack by Japan.
The 10,000 sq foot underground bunker is an
impressive feat of construction and a spooky
place to explore with flashlights. The
views from the bunker are outstanding;
Prince William Sound to the East, Fox Island
to the North, and Thumb Cove and Prospector
Glacier to the North west.
Trip Size: min 4 - max 8
* Intermediate physical condition. This is
an all day trip. Four hours of paddling and
90 minutes of hiking. You may have to paddle
against the wind, or tide. Good physical
condition is important to enjoy this trip.
** If you think the paddling both directions
would be too demanding for you, we can hire
a water taxi for the outbound leg and paddle
the return portion to Seward. The water taxi
adds $295 to the total cost of the trip. We
split the cost among the number of
participants. ($295.00/4 = $73.75 per person
additional cost, $295.00/8 = $37.00 per
person additional cost)
We offer double and single sea kayaks.
