WHAT IS A CO-OP TRIP?
These trips
are organized by Alaska Kayak Academy for
the benefit of students from our classes.
The idea is to give students an opportunity
to get out on the water with support and
training at a price lower than a normal
commercially priced trip.
To participate you need to have completed
both our 2 hr flat water paddling class
and 2 hr rescue class or demonstrate
that you have these skills.
CO-OP means cooperate.
Co-Op
trips are not “Guided”. AKA is providing
support NOT full “GUIDE” service.
Participants are expected to help with all
aspects of a trip: transportation, loading,
unloading, cooking, camp setup, take down,
shuttles and any other group support that
may be needed. AKA provides at lease
one support staff on a trip. This may not be
adequate to meet American Canoe Association
(ACA) standards of 1:5 . For this reason,
participants are responsible for their own
safety.
YOU NEED to be CAPABLE of
SELF RESCUE!
Co-Op trips are for:
People that need equipment and
want support and organization,
People who own gear but do not
know how to use it,
People who own gear, have
